About this event

Free (special exhibition fees still apply)

Built in the early part of the 20th century by San Francisco socialite Alma Spreckels, the museum features 106 works by her favorite artist, the French sculptor Rodin. Many other examples of European art are contained here as well, including some fine French Impressionist paintings.

This fine collection of well-respected artists may or may not impress your child. But there are at least two good reasons for families to visit this museum. One is the location. The museum is in Lincoln Park, which has spectacular views overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. Right next to the museum is Land's End, a scenic cliffs just right for smallish hikers. A number of families we know like to combine a morning or afternoon at the museum with a walk along the path afterwards.

The other reason to visit are the art workshops. On most Saturdays the museum offers special programs for parents and kids. They're free with museum admission. Kids ages 7-to-12 can attend Doing and Viewing Art, and 3-to-6 year-olds can check into Big Kids, Little Kids.

Each week children visit a different museum gallery and then participate in related studio art experiences under the guidance of museum docents and professional artists. Drop-ins are encouraged
